Exploring innovation, sustainability & impact in the fashion world Dr Darlie Koshy is a distinguished leader in India’s Handloom, Textile, Fashion, and Design sectors, with over 45 years of impactful experience. He has served as the Director of the National Institute of Design (NID) and Chairman of NDBI, Ahmedabad, where he played a pivotal role in transforming design education through innovation and technology. A founding faculty member of NIFT, New Delhi, Dr Koshy has also authored influential works such as Indian Design
Edge and RUNway to Skilled India. A three-term Board Member of the World Design Organization, he currently advises the World Crafts Council-AISBL and mentors several national skill development initiatives. Dr Koshy is globally recognized for championing
sustainability, innovation, and design thinking across both education and industry.

This event will explore the physical and chemical breakdown of textile fibres, the environments that influence biodegradation (such as soil, landfill, seawater, and industrial composting), and the role of catalysts like microorganisms, light, air, water, and additives in this process. Additionally, we will discuss test methods to determine biodegradability and how this compares with natural processes, as well as the impact of fabric treatments like colouration and finishing on fibre degradation.
