Join The Textile Institute London Section for an insightful online presentation on the biodegradability of textile fibres, hosted by Mohammad Mahbubul Hassan, Professor of Advanced Sustainable Materials at the Fashion Textiles & Technology Institute, University of the Arts, London.
This event will explore the physical and chemical breakdown of textile fibres, the environments that influence biodegradation (such as soil, landfill, seawater, and industrial composting), and the role of catalysts like microorganisms, light, air, water, and additives in this process. Additionally, we will discuss test methods to determine biodegradability and how this compares with natural processes, as well as the impact of fabric treatments like colouration and finishing on fibre degradation.
