The Textile Institute Benevolent Committee Bursaries

The Committee of Management of The Textile Institute Benevolent Society is offering financial support to assist a limited number of students to attend the 92nd Textile Institute World Conference 2023, which is being held at the University of Huddersfield, Huddersfield, UK, 3-6 July 2023. Each bursary will cover the student Conference fee and one year’s student membership of The Textile Institute (if the recipient is not already a member).

The Textile Institute is a unique organisation in textiles, clothing and footwear. It was incorporated in England by a Royal Charter granted in 1925, was inaugurated in 1910 and is a registered charity. The Institute has individual and Corporate Members in up to 70 countries, the membership covers all sectors and all disciplines in textiles, clothing, and footwear. Within these global industries the aim of the Institute is to facilitate learning, to recognise achievement, to reward excellence and to disseminate information.

Eligibility

The bursaries are open to full-time undergraduate or postgraduate students studying textile-related subjects (including clothing and footwear) in the UK. This may also apply to full-time PhD students and those on a part-time undergraduate or postgraduate course who are not working full-time and receive a salary below GB£7000 per annum (or equivalent). Preference will be given to students who are already members of The Textile Institute and/or who are presenting a paper at the Conference.

How to enter   

Applicants should submit a supporting statement in English (maximum 500 words) explaining how they would benefit from attending the World Conference. Entries marked World Conference Student Bursaries 2023 and including full contact details should be emailed for the attention of the CEO Stephanie Dick by Friday 16 June 2023 at the following address – tiihq@textileinst.org.uk

Condition of the award

As a condition of accepting their awards, successful applicants are required to submit a short report after the Conference outlining the benefits, they have gained from attending which will be published in the membership magazine and online.

Assessment

All entries will be assessed by a panel appointed by the Committee of Management and applicants will be notified of the outcome as soon as possible after the closing date.
